Etihad Suspends Damascus Flights

The national airline of UAE, Etihad Airways suspended flights between Abu Dhabi and Damascus with immediate effect and until further notice.

Safety for passengers and flight crewmembers is of great importance to the airline. The airline also gave a statement to notify the passengers and offer a full refund of the unused tickets.

Other major airlines operating services to Damascus are Emirates with one flight per day while Qatar Airways already stopped their services. However, Etihad Airways will continue flights to neighbouring Lebanon with no disruptions.

The civil war and the rebellious means to oust the Syrian President contribute to a deteriorating security position. Both the capital city Damascus and the largest city Aleppo has affected with significant clashes under the authoritarian regime of Bashar’s Assad, the President of Syria.
